Mitchells Plain School increases its Matric results by 35,5%

A Mitchells Plain high school has been recognised for best improving its matric pass rate despite constant threat of gang violence in the area.

The Western Cape Education Department praised Aloe High School for receiving “most improved school” at the annual awards ceremony Thursday.

This prestigious award is made to the high school that has shown the greatest improvement in pass rates over a three-year period.

Aloe High School was duly awarded this honour for ‘most improved’ high school for increasing its pass rate by more than 40% over the last three years.

Headmaster, Envil Wertheim, says that the matric students have had to ensure severe gang violence throughout the academic year.

Wertheim says that he is very proud of the students and dedicated staff who worked around the clock to achieve these results.

The school improved its results from 51,1% to 87%.

These results are no small feat, Mitchells Plain and surrounding areas continue to be riddled with gang violence prompting a civilian-led demonstration in the latter part of 2017.  Police complacency to gang violence spear-headed these protests; for example, 250 gun-shots were fired in one attack in November.

Again, stressing the outstanding results Aloe High School received came with pure hard work and dedication to their school system.
