WC braces series of protests

Author: Staff Reporter Updated: 08:00 14-09-2017

Authorities across the Western Cape are dealing with several protests occurring in the province.

In Cape Town's CBD, protesting Cape Peninsula University of Technology students have gathered outside the City of Cape Town's offices in Wale Street.

Disciplinary hearings against four students accused of misconduct are being conducted there.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are dealing with a second day of protests in the Hangberg community in Hout Bay.

A protest in Thembalethu in George has also caused the closure of the N2 highway.

In Kleinmond residents are demanding municipal manager Coenie Groenwald comes to address them in the community.

Overhills community members say they have been requested to meet officials at the municipal offices, but they say fear they'll be arrested if they do so.

Residents are dissatisfied with the awarding of a cleaning contract to a business from outside the community.

Violent protests which erupted on Monday are also in demand of housing and a graveyard.
