Van Breda trial: Rudi’s body moved after death

Author: Staff Reporter Updated: 11:30 12-09-2017

The Western Cape High Court, in the trial of triple murder Henri van Breda, has heard that the body of the accused’s brother was moved after he was killed.

On Monday, the trial resumed with the testimony of the State’s blood splatter expert, Marius Joubert.

Joubert explained that the body of Rudi van Breda, Henri’s older brother, was moved from the bed to the floor where it was then found by the police.

Joubert’s analysis was based on the evidence found in the van Breda family home in January 2015 soon after the murders occurred.

He added that blood stains found on the accused’s socks and shorts revealed that the items of clothing were in close proximity to the “blood shedding” events.

The court also heard that forensic analysts were able to trace microscopical evidence of DNA linked to all three deceased in the shower, despite the presence of a chemical that was sprayed in the vicinity.

He says investigators also noticed an item was removed from Henri van Breda's bed because there was an absence of blood spatter in an “otherwise continuous blood-stained area”.
