Severed head, tongue found with sangoma

Updated: 09:00 15-07-2017

Free State police say they are conducting DNA tests on a human head and tongue recovered from a traditional healer’s home to see if they belong to a headless body dug up from a nearby grave site.

The 32-year-old Lesotho national is expected to appear in court on Monday after he was found in possession of the body parts in Hlohlolwane outside Bloemfontein.

Authorities say they received a tip-off that led to the arrest of the suspect while they were investigating a case of grave violation in the area.

The police’s Phumelelo Dhlamini says, “We’re going to do forensic tests to link the head to the rest of the body that was left in the grave because we’re not sure whether it is that head that belongs to the deceased.”
