Charlize Theron teams up with Mandela’s grandson

Charlize Theron sparked new hope in the fight against HIV/AIDS last night, by posting a video of herself and Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Kweku Mandela, in an effort to launch the new #100conversations project in partnership with the NPO GenEndIt.

Taking to social media, Theron emphasised the importance of the youth in taking a stand to end HIV/AIDS and offer their strength and numbers to achieving this within their lifetimes.

“We, like Madiba, believe in the power of young people”, wrote Theron.

GenEndIt is a collaborative organisation founded by the coming together of various philanthropic entities including Prince Harry’s and Prince Seeiso’s Sentebale, The Elton John Aids Foundation, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project and more.

According to joint research by these organisations, every 2 minutes 3 young people on the African continent are infected with HIV/AIDS.

This has sparked many organisations to implement awareness programs for youths in the African continent, decreasing the chance of infections across the board.

GenEndIt’s goal is to rid the world of the immuno-deficiency virus by the year 2030, a goal which Theron and Mandela say is achievable only through unity and discourse.

The announcement comes at an auspicious time as 2018 marks the centenary of the late Nelson Mandela.
