’Star Wars 9’ has found a new director

Author: Staff Reporter Updated: 15:00 15-09-2017

J.J. Abrams will return to the Star Wars universe, as it’s been announced that the Star Trek director will helm Star Wars Episode 9.

Abrams' return was announced in a statement published on Star Wars.com. The statement also revealed that the filmmaker will co-write the film with Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio.

Abrams replaces Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, who left the project a few days ago over creative differences with Lucasfilm.

Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy revealed her excitement over Abrams' return. "With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy," Kennedy gushed.

Because of the director shakeup, Episode 9 has vacated its May 2019 slot shifting its release to December of that year.
