’Fast and Furious 8’ bags R17 million in SA

Fast & Furious 8 made well over R17 million in South Africa in its first three days.

According to a report from UIP South Africa, the film stormed into South African cinemas last week Friday, taking in roughly R17 777 495 during its first three days of release.

The eighth instalment, which sees SA-born actress Charlize Theron joining the franchise as the villainous Cipher, recently broke a global record.

The film beat Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens' $529 million worldwide opening with a record topping $532 million.

The only question on everybody's lips is how long it would take for Fast & Furious 8 to hit over a billion dollars – which seems all but likely at this point.
