’Grey’s Anatomy’ getting another spinoff

Updated: 11:00 18-05-2017

A second spin-off is on the way for medical drama "Grey's Anatomy," as US network ABC orders a new series revolving around a group of firefighters in the west coast city of Seattle.

Though a title has not yet been announced, a firehouse drama is being spun-off from ABC's longrunning primetime flagship "Grey's Anatomy."

Like "Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice," "Scandal," "How to Get Away with Murder" and "The Catch," this new show comes from longtime ABC creative partner and executive producer Shonda Rhimes.

"Private Practice," was the first series derived from "Grey's Anatomy," following one of its doctors after she leaves the city hospital for a clinic in Los Angeles.

Rhimes' production company, ShondaLand, already had Shakespearean period drama "Still Star-Crossed" booked to air from the end of May, and ABC is adding this new firefighting pitch to its list of upcoming Rhimes-produced shows.

"No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda," said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey, anticipating an early 2018 debut.
