Watch: Superman’s new prequel TV show

Updated: 00:30 20-04-2017

More than two years after being announced, the series set on Superman's planet of birth has its first trailer. The show, titled Krypton is expected to air at the end of the year on US TV network Syfy.

From "Supergirl" and "Arrow" to "The Flash," "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Gotham," the small screen is filling up with TV series based on the DC Comics universe. This fall, Syfy adds to the list with "Krypton," a drama which — as the name suggests — is set on Superman's home planet, where the Man of Steel was originally born under the name Kal-El.

His grandfather will be the hero of the series, fighting to redeem the honor of the ostracized and shamed El family, and striving to bring hope and equality to his people and save his planet from chaos.

"Krypton" is a prequel that will further enrich the wider legend of Superman. Syfy has enlisted big-screen superhero specialist David S. Goyer to get the series off the ground. The "Man of Steel" screenwriter also penned "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.

In front of the camera, the young British actor Cameron Cuffe — recently seen in "Florence Foster Jenkins" — has been picked for the role of Superman's grandfather.
