GoPro is getting ready to launch a revolutionary new addition to its action camera lineup – the 5,2K, spherical GoPro Fusion.
The camera, says the company, will be capable of capturing truly 360-degree, all-angle, immersive footage that will be VR-compatible.
Six separate lenses work together seamlessly to merge their individual recordings into one coherent video or image.
“In addition to high performance spherical capture for fully immersive VR experiences,” says GoPro, “Fusion’s 5.2K resolution enables a new OverCapture creative solution that gives content creators the flexibility to produce conventional non-VR video and photos in HD-quality "punched out" from the spherically captured angles”
360-degree cameras have changed the way that filmmakers perceive their work, as they eliminate the need for framing.
“Imagine never having to worry about framing your subject…ever,” says Jess Foley, GoPro Senior Product Manager of Spherical Solutions. “Well, thanks to Fusion, our users will be able to record their moments in all directions and then go back and choose the composition they want. This is referred to as OverCapture or reframing.”
Foley adds that it’s like having a whole camera crew with you, shooting footage from several other angles that can all be composed into one video later.
The Fusion will be rolled-out to a select few ‘pilot partners’ later this year, including various brands and agencies, but an official launch date has yet to be announced.
GoPro has, however, made the pilot project open to content professionals around the world, who can apply at https://gopro.com/fusion.
