Hamilton regrets letting heart rule head

Author: Staff Reporter Updated: 11:45 01-08-2017

On Sunday, Lewis Hamilton slowed down to give his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas a podium finish in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes team chief supported this decision, saying: “ Valtteri moved over because we asked him to move over — and then Lewis moved over at the end. Fair play to both of them.”

Hamilton promised that if he failed to pass a Ferrari, he would give back the position and this is exactly what he did. It did however cost him three championship points as he finished in fourth position.

He insisted that it was "the right way to do things" but admitted that “I don't think I'll ever get back those three points.”

He is now 14 points behind  world championship leader Sebastian Vettel, instead of the 11 he might have been if he had taken third, while Bottas is only 19 points further back, says AFP.

“It is tough in the championship, but I am a man of my word – slowing down seven seconds was tough”, Hamilton concludes.
