Langebaan’s country escape

Author: Staff Writer Updated: 12:16 08-01-2018

Among the many coastal towns of the Western Cape, Langebaan is one of the most popular – and with good reason.

Sun, sea and sand are three vital aspects of any summer vacation, and the beaches of this West Coast hamlet do not disappoint. Flanked by the turquoise waters of the Langebaan lagoon and the fresh Atlantic waters of Saldanha Bay, Langebaan Country Estate is just an hour and a half from cape Town – it’s a no-brainer for a quick getaway.

Overlooking the coast from the wild hillsides above, the estate combines the natural beauty and village charm of the West Coast with luxury accommodation, superb golf facilities, and a myriad of activities for young and old alike.

Game roams free among the sparse coastal vegetation and beautifully-designed homes. Instead of hadedas on your lawn, you’ll find antelope, or even an elusive caracal.

Beds at the 450-hectare estate are offered in two forms – stylish apartment-style golf suites and exclusive, luxurious lodges.

The four-star lodges are fully equipped and are serviced daily – you won’t need to lift so much as a finger. With beautiful views of the neighbouring golf course and close proximity to the clubhouse, the lodges are ideal for couples or families looking for a more secluded escape.

On the other side of the estate, Ellefsen village’s golf suites blend self-catering convenience with security and peace of mind. Let the kids play in the pool while you enjoy indulgent spa treatments in the village, or catch a ride on a golf-cart taxi to take you to any of the estate’s amenities.

All accommodation is equipped with DSTV, braai facilities, full kitchens and secure parking. If you’re feeling too lazy to cook, however, the clubhouse restaurant offers a great variety of meals over the course of the week. Breakfast can be overly-popular, however, so be sure to get there early – before all the croissants run out!

Of course, Langebaan Country Estate’s biggest draw is its golf courses – that’s right, there’s more than one.

While the full 18-hole golf course is aimed at old pros who have already mastered the fine game, the estate’s 18-hole ‘Mashie Course’ is a downscaled sibling that introduces youngsters and newcomers to the subtleties of the sport.

There’s also a driving range on the property, while the clubhouse boasts a Golf Pro Shop. As well as a Pro Putt course designed to test even the coolest of finishers.

If you’re more kick-inclined, the Mashie Course doubles as a Foot Golf course. It’s a soccer skill test that puts a swing in your step!

Golf isn’t the only pastime enjoyed at the estate. Runners and mountain-bikers regularly make use of the gorgeous untouched wilderness bordering the estate’s buildings. The local Parkrun is held at the estate every Saturday – it’s probably one of the most beautiful venues in the country.

Seniors, there’s no need to feel left out. The estate also boasts a full bowls facility, with a clubhouse to boot.

Go outside the estate’s gates, however, and you’ll be met with the world of activities that the Langebaan region has to offer. From kayaking on the lagoon to sandboarding in Atlantis, there’s more than enough to keep you busy between rounds on the golf course.

If you love golf and need a quick escape from city life, Langebaan Country Estate’s facilities and location are second to none.

The town itself is a true Western Cape gem, and with accommodation at the estate, you’ll have the wonders of the entire West Coast at your doorstep.
