WATCH: Leopard takes on nine wild dogs!

Author: Staff Reporter Updated: 11:31 29-09-2017

Leopards are well known for their elusiveness, reclusiveness and evasiveness, but one individual in the Kruger National Park has flipped that reputation right on its head.

In a video captured by Field Guide Patrick Mziyako, a male leopard surprises a feasting pack of wild dogs – also known as African painted dogs – by charging right in, grabbing the kill, and hauling it away up a nearby tree.

Speaking to Latest Sightings, Mziyako says that the wild dogs had just tucked in after hunting down an impala.

“I was very excited because it is not easy to witness such a drama in Kruger,” he says. “The wild dogs tried to fight the leopard off but it was too late. They soon left the scene after trying to stare their food out of the tree.”

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time the experienced ranger had seen this type of behaviour. In fact, he witnessed the very same thing happen seven years ago.

Crucially, this time he caught the action on camera, sharing the excitement with all of us. Watch it below:
