Author: Mikail Baker Updated: 09:16 08-05-2017

Iziko is offering Capetonians and visitors to the city a one-night-only opportunity to visit several of its museums free of charge.

The annual ‘Museum Night’ will take place tonight, Thursday the 20th of April, between 5pm and 10pm.

The museums custodian is marketing the event as an opportunity to see the institutions “in a new light”, under the cover of darkness in the Mother City.

The museums involved in the event are as follows:

Iziko South African Museum (25 Queen Victoria Street)

South African Jewish Museum (88 Hatfield Street)

Cape Town Holocaust Centre (88 Hatfield Street)

Martin Melck House (96 Strand Street)

SA Sendinggestig Museum (40 Long Street)

Muller’s Museum (Cnr Longmarket and Parliament Street)

District Six Museum (Corner Buitenkant & Albertus)

Iziko Slave Lodge (Corner Wale & Adderley Street

Iziko SA National Gallery (Government Avenue (Company's Gardens))

Each museum is notable in its own respect, from the SA Musem’s famous whale well to the National Gallery’s spectacular artworks.

If you’re planning on taking part, keep in mind that parking in the Cape Town CBD is often hard to come by. Arrive early and be ready to walk!
