Langeveldt to be axed from Proteas

Author: Staff Reporter Updated: 21:00 04-11-2017

It has been confirmed by Proteas coach Ottis Gibson that Charl Langeveldt will no longer retain the role of bowling coach of the team, adding that his contract had come to an end.

Langeveldt has been the bowling coach since Allan Donald exited the position after the 2015 World Cup Semi-final defeat to New Zealand.

According to sport24, the former West Indian player decided to “keep Langeveldt (bowling coach), Neil McKenzie (batting coach), Claude Henderson (spin bowling coach) and Adrian Birrell (assistant coach) as his backroom staff for Bangladesh's tour.”

Gibson said: “Obviously, Cricket South Africa have to make that happen. At the moment, there are just names of people that I think can do a good job with the team, some overseas, some local.

“I will do the bowling, then there will be a batting coach, a fielding coach, an assistant coach and a spin bowling coach – so four, plus myself. Having spoken to Charl, bowling has always been my specialism as a coach, fast bowling. He fully understands that.”

Sport24 adds that Birrell is expected to vacate his current role. It is possible that McKenzie is to be retained.
