’GoT’ pirated more than a billion times

Author: Staff Reporter Updated: 11:45 07-09-2017

Game of Thrones is undoubtedly one of the 20th century’s most influential TV shows, but as it turns out, its fans are not as loyal as you’d think.

In fact, rather than watch the show through official channels, they’d rather obtain it illegally – more than a billion times.

That’s according to data published by piracy monitor MUSO, which adds that the large majority of the illegal traffic was comprised of illegal streaming. Downloads, meanwhile, accounted for around 15% of the total.

Each episode was pirated more than 140-million times. To put that in perspective, consider that legal views only added up to a measly 32-million. According to TorrentFreak, MUSO’s stats don’t even take Chinese traffic into account.

Of course, this season of the show was plagued by mishaps, including hacks and accidental leaks. It was the most popular season thus far, and the final run is set for release sometime in the next two years.

These are MUSO’s stats, as reported by TorrentFreak:
