Uptime: YouTube’s fun new app

Google’s app incubator offshoot, Area 120, has launched a new way to watch YouTube videos.
The new app, called Uptime, allows you to watch videos with digital friends in real time, with built-in live commenting and reaction functionality.
According to Ars Technica, the app is a combination of Facebook’s Live video functionality with “social video watching”.
You can track which videos your friends are watching, and how far in they are. It’s a fun way to share videos on the go.
One drawback, however, is its lack of an upload function, meaning that you can only watch and share videos that are already on YouTube.
All apps coming out of Area 120 are technically experimental, and that means that Uptime lacks a few key features, like YouTube’s private messaging feature. It’s also limited to iOS users.
Flaws aside, it’s still really fun to use, and could end up becoming quite popular.
